There are clear indications from Oslo that Norway would take

100 refugees from Hong Kong. Despite this, the Norwegian

representatives in Geneva would not (not) confirm that

Norway would make any response to HMG's initiative.

The

Norwegian representative in Hong Kong recently announced that his

country would take 100 in response to our appeal for Open Centre

relations in Austria has been

passed to the Austrian representative in Hong Kong.

Comment Vienna is unlikely to do more than take family

reunion cases from Hong Kong.

6.

Denmark The Danish representatives said that their

government would respond only to an approach from the UNHCR.

The Danes have confirmed their willingness to help by offering

the fow remaining places out of their 1985 refugee quota of 250

to the UNHCR for Hong Kong. Comment - The Danes pioneered the

disabled refugees in Hong Kong might prove successful.

7. Finland The Finns have been very pleased with the way

in which Vietnamese refugees from Hong Kong have settled down

in Finland. They have agreed to take a further 100 Vietnamese

refugees, the majority of them from Hong Kong. It appears
