(iii) we cannot, at this stage, exclude the possibility that it may be necessary to retain the continued application of UK law in relation to existing ASAS.
The undertakings referred to in sub paragraphs (i) and (ii) could well be the subject of a confidential despatch containing the Secretary of State's instructions.
I think Hong Kong should be made aware that there are certain aspects of this legislation which will need to be considered in detail with ourselves and that we will need to consider certain arrangements for consultation/consent with regard to its implementation. We should draw their attention to the external aspects as possibly having consequences for HMG and we should note the possible need for a despatch. Particularly having regard to the desirability of having comprehensive provisions, I think we should put a question mark against the timetable proposed in paragraph 7 of telno 630.
