2.2.2

The predicted noise levels at all positions, except point 4 Mansion), were found to exceed the required standard. From an analysis of the results, the low level of the exit and, in part, entry tunnel ramps substantially limits the impact of traffic noise. This however is somewhat negated by the IEC traffic which is a major contributor to the noise levels.

2.2.3 A preliminary assessment of methods to reduce noise levels was undertaken. As an example, the provision of a 2m high barrier adjacent to the tunnel entry ramp provides a reduction in noise level of between 5 and 15 dB(A) at Pine Mansion. It is possible therefore to provide measures which will reduce levels to meet the required standards.

2.2.4

It is concluded that, in

conjunction with finalising the design of the works, a detailed investigation should be carried out, to determine the nature and extent of the noise amelioration requirements. It is recommended that barriers in the form of earth bunds, fences, walls and, if necessary, canopies be provided. The provision of such measures should take due consideration of avoiding any adverse visual intrusion and be carefully integrated into the works and associated
