Dear Sir,

Objection to the clearance of village houses and acquisition of land in Cha Kwo Ling area for the construction of Eastern Harbour Crossing as announced in the

noitce published by the Secretary for Lands and Works on 3.1.86

According to the notices issued by the Housing Department

on 16.9.85 and 5.11.85, village houses at Nos. 1 - 25H, Cha Kwo Ling

Main Street are scheduled to be cleared on 22.5.86 to make way for

the Eastern Harbour Crossing. At that time, the consortium to under-

take the project was not yet selected and the layout and related

plans of the tunnel were not yet published either. On receiving

the villagers' complaints, we wrote to the departments concerned on

17.9.85, 12.11.85 and 9.12.85 enquiring about the purpose of the

resumption and the exact clearance boundary. As the Housing

Department fails to give us a clear resumption purpose (the initial

reply was "for permanent development" which was later changed to

"for the Eastern Harbour Crossing project") and a definite clearance

boundary, all villagers affected by the clearance registration are

living in constant fear that they may suffer heavy losses.

develop the Eastern Harbour Crossing was announced and plans for

the new tunnel were published. In response to our letters of
