The power station at Lamma Island is designed in such a way that it can be eithe: coal- or oil-fired. The
of the view company is
that the station will not be operated in the oil-fired mode in the foreseeable future. While operating in the coal-fired mode small quantities of petroleum products are needed to provide the initial start-up. When required these quantities will be landed at the company's Heavy Unloading Area (also at Po Lo Tsui) listed in Part II of the First Schedule as a petroleum wharf for the berthing of Type III vessels.
5
The power station at Ap Lei Chau is oil-fired but the fuel is delivered by the Shell Company using its own wharf listed under Part I of the First Schedule.
6
Thus neither the jetty nor the wharf in question are used to unload dangerous goods and the Hong Kong Electric Company wishes to have them deleted from the First Schedule So that it no longer has to incur the expense of maintaining them for that purpose. It is proposed to accede to the company's request. The amending regulations provide accordingly.
