I wrote to you
on 2 December 1985 in connection with a proposal to amend
the existing agreement between the Hong Kong Government and HMG under which the
Railways Inspectorate of this Department undertakes services in connection with
the Mass Transit Railway in Hong Kong. The question which I raised related to
whether any
new particular provision ought to be included in contemplation of
the events that will take place in 1997. You asked me to supply a copy of the
original agreement, and I have only just been able to obtain a copy. However,
I now attach a copy of the original agreement dated 30 August 1978 and of a supple-
mental agreement dated 12 June 1984.
2. I shall be grateful if you could now give us some advice about anything which might need to be added to the new agreement in contemplation of the changes which
will take place in 1997.
