e.g. removing the original signboard and making a new signboard
which will be projected into the middle of the road so as to
avoid being blocked by the footbridge. Apart from causing us
trouble and affecting our business, such removal and reprovisioning
will incur extra expenses.
(5) Similarly both the interior and exterior decorations of our
shop will be blocked by one side of the footbridge and will
become no longer attractive. In particular we have recently
spent a sum of money in the renovation of our shop front with
the sole purpose of improving our business. Should this
footbridge be built, the renovation will be useless and the
money spent in it will be just a waste.
In summing up, please note that we have paid a considerable
price in the purchase of the said property and invested in it for
business. The then environment of Percival Street is same as the
-present one. That is to say the whɔle street is bright and having
no blockage or obstruction. The construction of the footbridge here by
the Government will change its original environment, thereby affecting
the value of our property and causing our business to drop. Being
subjected to double losses, we are perfectly entitled to raise our
objection. We, being Hong Kong citizens, have the duty to pay all sorts
of taxes. We should also have the rights enjoyed by citizens.
We still have to point out here specifically that the alteration
of the position and form of the footbridge as announced in the gazette
has also caused us a lot of trouble and made us unable to follow.
