14. Conversion of waste organic matters to reusable

material (sugar or fuel).

15. Retrieval of useful substances from waste plastics.

Features of Environmental Purification by Radiation

1.

No secondary pollutants. Since radiated pollutants

are directly oxidized to become harmless substances

or polymerized to become useful chemicals, there is

no highly concentrated harmful solid sludge produced

in the process.

2. Thorough disinfection.

3.

Ionic rays, with its strong

penetrability, can kill pathogens and eggs of parasites

hidden in solid particles or sludge.

Simple technology and short process. Radiation purification

is a very simple technology mainly involving the radiation

source, inlets and outlets of the treatment medium

(such as water or gas) and the necessary storage

equipment.

4. Energy conservation.

More energy, approximately 70%

or more, can be conserved when compared with conventional

methods.

5. Conversion of wastes into resources.

For example,

radiated waste gases from industrial flues can form

compound fertilizers of ammonium nitrate and ammonium

sulphide upon ammoniation. Unsaturated organic matters

in waste water can be radiated to form polymers which

serve as concrete and timber additives. Radiated
