Solid Track Display

This method makes the charged particles, such as proton,

a-particle and heavy ion, pierce through such insulative solids

as plastic film, glass, mica and mineral, and brings about a

damage therein with a diameter of about several tens of As

(hundred millionth of a centimeter); and further uses some chemical

method to enlarge the damage; thus its track can be seen under

optic microscope. And the analysis of the said track can lead

to the discovery of the secrets of the objective world.

This technology has been widely applied in such fields as

nuclear physics, cosmic-ray physics, radiation dosimetry,

environmental monitoring, industrial filtering, survey of

uranium mines, survey of underground water and archaeology.

instance, the mica detector has detected the track density of

U-238 spontaneous fission in the wedge-stone at the Zhoukoudian

Apeman Relics. After an analysis, it has been determined that

the apeman lived about 462,000 45,000 years ago, basically

conforming to the age estimated by paleontological data and

the paleomagnetic method.
