Since its coming into existence in 1959, RIA has brought

about a significant transform in clinical testing, and has branched out many methods of analysis, such as the competitive protein-combination analysis, immunity radioactive analysis, radio-variation analysis, radio-mycological analysis, radio-

microorganism analysis, etc. By now, RIA has gradually formed

an independent methodological science.

Nuclear Medical Treatment Scalpel-less Operation

It has been universally acknowledged that the radioactive

isotopes can be used to treat some diseases. The modes of

treatment can be summarized into three, i.e., internal irradiation,

external applying, and injection in colloidal matter.

I-131 curing hyper-thyroidism is the most successful example

for the internal-irradiation treatment. After oral taking a

certain dose of radio-iodine by the patient, the iodine is

selectively concentrated in the thyroid gland with active function.

Due to the bio-effects of the rays, part of the inner-gland acini

are damaged, thus accomplishing the task of partly removing the

thyroid gland. This method is recommended for its merits of

simplicity, easy operation, safety, being economical, low rate.

of recurrence, and little complication; hence is praised as

"scalpel-less operation", now a chief curing means for hyper-
