There is virtually no agricultural land specifically cultivated
for grazing purposes though a few improved pasture (c.g. elephant grass)
are grown as greenage to be handfed to dairy cattle (1 650 head). Brown
cattle (2750 hd) and buffaloes (80 hd) and goat (490 hd) are soavengers
of whatever available on natural pasture scattering in the New Territories.
The number of these animals is on the decrease following rapid urbanisatior
Only a few sh、ep are kept in Ocean Park and AFD Castle Peak farm.

Keeping of brown cattle or water buffaloes by farmers is to supplener
income rather than a full time qeration. The grwoth of these animals de̟yer considerably on the availability and the nutritional value of the natural pasture. They are usually sold for noat purpose when grown to marketable size (2-3 years). The mean life span of datry cattle is 6 years depending
on its economic value of milk production.
