Plants

ATTACHMENT A

Appendix A

Requirements of local data for foodchain modeling

Plants are grouped into four categories: root crops, grains, green vegetables and pasture. For each of these categories, information is required on:

&

(a) location and surface area of production;

(b) if available, interception factor ( of air-borne

radionuclides);

(c) if available, retention factor (of radionuclides deposited on surface of plant) on edible portion before consumption;

·

(d) growing period before cropping;

(e) depth of root zone;

(f) if available, concentration factor (of

radionuclides) between soil and plant.

(g) if available, irrigation rate per unit surface

area.

II. Animals

Animals are grouped into 3 categories : grazing animals, poultry, and marine/freshwater produce.

(i) For each of the three types of grazing animals -

cattle, cow and sheep, the following information is needed :-

(a) size and location of grazing area;

(b) number of animal per unit grazing area;

(c) milk production rate;

(d) mean life of animal;

(e) soil consumption together with grass/feed intake;

(f) weight of muscle in animal;

(g) weight of liver per animal;

(h) inhalation rate of animal;
