Editorially, the HK Economic Journal said the success of China's plan to sell electricity from Daya Bay to HK as a means to finance the project would depend on the convertibility and stability of the HK dollar. Thus China would take steps to support the local currency if and when necessary.

Sing Pao and the Oriental Daily News said HK should start considering ways to train experts in nuclear energy so that HK would have the expertise to participate in the monitoring of the plant.

The HK Daily News felt that the people of HK should continue to express their concern about the safety and the economic aspects of the plant to Peking and the HK Government,

Sing Tao Jih Pao said the negative effects as a result of the total disregard for public opinions in HK were something China had to tackle.

The Express said the contract signing would not and worries and the confidence problems in HK. It would require time and remedial

measures.

Wen Wei Po, Ta Kung Pao, the New Evening Post and the HK Commercial Daily said the signing of the Daya Bay contracts had great significance. They said the Daya Bay plant would make a valuable contribution to HK's prosperity and China's modernisation.

A Centre Daily News commentary said Ming Pao had placed its stake on a wrong bet.
