Mrs. Maragret Thatcher,

The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom,

Hong Kong Government House,

Hong Kong.

From: Miss Rosemary Leigh,

c/o Robin Hutcheon, Esq., South China Morning Post,

G. P. O. Box 47, Hong Kong. December 17th 1984.

Dear Mrs. Thatcher,

Do you remember what I wrote to you together with the enclosure some six months ago?

This is to thank you for your being so polite and courteous as to thank my letters.

I wish you to know that you are a gracious lady and it is wonderful that you come and visit Hong Kong.

I highly appreciate that you have told people all over the world, in an implied term, to 'make hay while the sun shines' and 'not to cross the bridge till you come to it', so as to give people 'hope' to carry on during the transitional period and let the future of Hong Kong take care of itself.

I cannot agree with you more that people of Hong Kong must cherish this transitional period with gratitude instead of ruining this transitional period with stupidity.

Although the draft agreement could turn out to be an impossible dream yet no one can rule out the possibility that a miracle may happen.

You see, the announcement of the 1997 issue is just like an announcement of the diagnosis of cancer in the human body and the curative treatment of choice is 'operation', i.e., continuation of British administration in Hong Kong after 1997 until the conditions are riped for China to take over Hong Kong from the British Government, but leaders in mainland China have decidedly and sbsolutely refused to have the curative treatment and would like palliative treatment', i.e., the draft agreement.

Nevertheless, whatever will be will be and what I care most now is to have a lovely Christmas. 'Take life one day at a time'.

Would you kindly find enclosed a X'mas card together with a book mark Expect a miracle' and a small calandar 'Walking with Christ', for you to keep,

a token from me.

With all good wishes and my very best regards to you always.

Yours sincerely,
