A caller to "Open Line" said he was disappointed with the statement by the Governor upon his return from Peking on Tuesday night. He said it seemed to him that the Government was not taking note of what the people were saying.

The Standard reported that Chinese Prime Minister Zhao Ziyang is likely to meet the Legco fact-finding mission members who have been invited for a three-day visit to Peking. The 13 Legcp members might bë granted an audience with Deng Xiaoping, the paper said.
Reporter David Wong of the paper said the forthcoming visit to Peking would have a significant bearing on the future role of Umelco, perhaps even opening up a direct dialogue between the two parties.
Both papers commented on the issue in their editorials. The Fost said in rejecting proposals for a new debate, Legco members have thrown away an opportunity to demonstrate their commitment to making sure the voice of HK was heard. The Standard said it was a sad episode før HK reflecting as it does the mood of blind appeasement that clouds the top echelon of our community.

Editorially, Ming Pau challanged the representativeness of the Legco fact-finding delegations which had been invited to visit Peking. The report prepared by the delegations indicated that they could not represent the views of the one million peple who had signed up against the Daya Bay project. At least some of the councillors did not recognise the delegations's report as representing the position of the whole council.

Ta Kung Pao said that the three decisions arrived at the Legco's In-house meeting last night were in line with public opinion and that they also indicated the basic attitude of the HK's Legislature towards the Daya Bay project.

Wen Wet Po welcomed the councillors' decision to accept China's invitation to visit Peking to exchange views on the Daya Bay project.
Sing Tao Jih Pao said that the report by the Lagco' fact-finding delegations had its value and it called on the Chinese authorities to accept the report as reference in the safe operation of the Daya Bay plant.
