Thursday, September 4: The electrónic and print media gave
extensive coverage to last night's Legco in-house meeting and views on the decisions on three main issues.
More prominently reported was the decision not to hold a spacial sitting to debate the Daya Bay issue. In prominent headlines, some papers, including Sing Pao, the Express, the HK Times and Sing Tao Jih Pao, reported that some of the Legco Unofficials would see the Governor today after their demand for a special Legco debate was rejected.

The Legco in-house meeting also decided to accept China's invitation to visit Peking on September 18 to exchange views with Chinese officials on the report by Legco nuclear fact-finding
missions.

The Legco report was endorsed unanimously.
Speaking to Sing Pao last night, the Chief Secretary, Sir David Akers-Jones, said that the Governor would definitely listen to the views of those councillors who would be seeing him this morning. He described the discussions at the in-house meeting as thorough, careful and conclusive.

In another report, the paper said that at the start of yesterday's meeting, the acting Senior Legco Unofficial, S.L.Chen, produced a letter from Sir David Akers-Jones (then acting Governor) dated September 1.

Copies of the letter were distributed to members as Mr Chen read out the letter, which said that China had decided to go ahead with the Daya Bay project and that the HK Government supported the project -
Quoting an unnamed councillor, the paper said that those present at the meetlug were taken aback by Mr Chen' move. Anti-nuclear councillors were not happy about it.

meeting.

Sing Tao, quoting a source, said that Chinese leaders Deng Xiaoping and Zhao Ziyang would see members of the Legco delegations during their Peking visit.
