considerable interest from the public and so far more than 8,000

copies of the report have been requested. Some members of the public have forwarded their written comments to the UMELCO Office while others have chosen to express their views on the report

through the media. They include views from district board members, religious organisations, interested groups and private

individuals.

Generally speaking, members of the public who support

the findings of the report consider that it is a rational, practical and valuable document containing detailed information

on nuclear power generation and that the observations made

therein should be carefully considered by the relevant

authorities. On the contrary, there are also those who hold opposing views. They consider that

that the report

report was written with the presumption that the Daya Bay project will go ahead; that it is not well-balanced in that no significant anti-nuclear views

have been included;

that it has not analysed the pros and cons for Hong Kong of constructing the Daya Bay plant; that it has not contained information on the economic viability of the project;

it has not proved the feasibility of the project; that it

has no information on the details and costs of contingency measures required for Hong Kong; and, above all, has not eased

the worry and concern of the people of Hong Kong over the

project.

In accepting the invitation to visit Beijing, members of the delegations believe that they are tasked :-
