safety. Since its establishment, NNSA has placed great emphasis
on staff training and sought international assistance from
countries with advanced experience in nuclear energy development, in order to acquire nuclear safety technology for large scale nuclear power plants. With the assistance offered by IAEA, the USA and France, a number of special seminars and training courses have been organized for NNSA staff. Staff members have also been sent to France to participate in training courses for nuclear
safety.
Institute of Atomic Energy of China

The Institute of Atomic Energy of China, which
Delegation Members visited, has an annual recurrent budget of RMB ¥30 million. Additional research funds for special assignments,
such
those as
undertaken on the advice of the NNSA, may be
obtained from the Government when required.

The Institute has 3,500 staff, 1,300 of whom are at the engineer level and above, and 300 senior staff at
at the professor
level. Having had 30 years of history, the Institute branches
out to form a
number of independent institutes all over China. There are 8 departments, namely, : the Reactor Engineering Technology Research Department, the Radioactive Chemistry Research Department, the Isotope Research Department, the Nuclear Technology Application Department, the Nuclear Physics Research
Department, the Health Protection Department, the General Technology Department, and the Radioactivity Measurement Centre.
