the sand filter system would need to be maintained at a temperature of -50°C in order to be effective; as Daya Bay was located in

in a sub-

tropical climate zone, the technical problems involved would need to be studied in depth.

The Chinese authorities emphasized that the basis for

consideration was whether the

would affect the integrity and safety of the containment

building. They also stressed that the final decision would be based not on financial considerations but soly on engineering

grounds and safety considerations.

Hydrogen Recombiner System

Two

hydrogen recombiner systems have already been incorporated in the design

of the Daya Bay plant.

(3) Pressurized Containment Penetration Design : We learnt that the design as used by the Zion plant in the USA was only one of several alternative methods to prevent leakage of air

from the containment. The Chinese experts told us that the

French design for containment penetration was based on

different principle but achieved the same effect and the practicability of the design had been proved through long periods of trial by nuclear plants in France.
