has no intention of interfering with the date for the signing of the

Daya Bay contracts because these contracts symbolise an important

milestone in Sino-British trade.

kenton sala in the letter that the British Government under- stands the worry shown by the people of Hong Kong towards the nuclear power plant and, thus, maintains frequent contact with the Chinese

Government. The Chinese side has, thereby, pledged to accord the utmost

importance to the issue of safety of the Daya Bay nuclear plant. There

is no need for the people of Hong Kong to be overworried about the project.

Renton said once the people of Hong Kong have come to realise

how concerned the Chinese and the British governments are about the Daya

Bay project, their worries will subside, and that the purpose of the

recent LegCo fact-finding missions to Europe, the U.S. and Japan is to

enhance Hong Kong People's understanding of nuclear energy and their

confidence on the safety of the Daya Bay nuclear plant.
