Daya Bay Nuclear Plant

The extent of public objection to the project, judging from feedbacks I received from residents of my district, appears to be dissipating during the last week. The main reason for this change of attitude is the strong stand taken by China on the project. Many people also think that the visit of the Secretary for Economic Services to nuclear power plants in other countries is in fact intended for the collation of more information to back up the Daya Bay Project. Hence instead of objecting the power plant or requesting for its relocation, their attention is now focused on the safety and management control aspects of the power plant. In addition, they also consider that more public education should be done to help the people of Hong Kong know more about nuclear energy. The Government should also announce early the contingency plan to evacuate the people of Hong Kong should there be problems in the plant in future.
