The views expressed by representatives of Guangdong Nuclear Power Joint Venture Co. (JVC) at a recent press interview had aroused the attention of some respondents. Two MAC chairmen felt that the JVC representatives' remark that the PRC was determined to go ahead with the Nuclear Plant Project was a bit high- handed in the present controversy. Their remark also. reflected PRC's lack of concern for the opinion of Hong Kong residents. They viewed that PRC should take a more active attitude by disclosing information on the proposed safety measures if she wanted to allay Hong Kong residents' worry about the project,

Mr. NG Siu-cheung (a pro-PRC elected DB member). held a different view and considered that the concern over the safety of the project was totally unfounded. was confident that PRC would take every precaution to ensure the safety of the plant. Mr. LI Ting-kit (elected DB member) considered that the issue had become too political and he refused to take part in any local. public rally (such as signature campaign) against the project. Another DB member and LegCo member, Mr. POON Chi-fai, appeared to take a rather neutral stand. He said that he would hold discussions on the issue with AC and DB members in his coming routine local consultation.
