WTR for the week ending 11.7.86 from DO(S)

P.3

(D) Daya Bay

13.

Fears have not been dispelled by the departure of SES to Europe or by the proposed LegČo visit. Many people see these as rather pointless.

14.

DB members had a frank and interesting discussion with China Light and Power officials during the visit to Castle Peak Power Station on 3rd July. They were surprised to learn that Daya Bay is only intended as a stop-gap, between 1992 and 1995, and that CLP will need to have another new power station in operation in 1996. They felt that this fact weakened the case for Daya Bay.

15.

CLP cannot provide a representative for today's DB meeting, so discussion of the subject will be deferred to 7th August (although the Company may still be unable, or willing, to send an expert then).

Worshippers

The Catholic Diocesan Affairs Committee is organising a petition against, the power plant. were invited to sign when leaving churches in Southern last Sunday. There were long queues.
