argentine president calls for creation of more just world
buenos aires, july 17 (xinhua) argentine president raul alfonsin stressed in marila today the necessity to create a world in which "the discrimination in trade, the concentration of development and the monopoly of knowledge will make way for more symmetric north south relations".
in a speech at a dinner hosted by his philippine counterpart corazon aquino alfonsin said, "on the threshold of the twenty-first century it is suicidal to think that our planet can still remain divided. for the growing interdependence and the degree of integration of the world economy will make it impossible for any state to avoid the negative effects of an unstable and uncertain south.
referring to the threat of a nuclear holocaust, alfonsin said that argentina is in agreement with other friendly countries that nuclear disarmament and a nuclear test ban should be of utmost importance and that violence should never take the place of negotiations in international relations.
alfonsin arrived in manila today after visiting new zealand, australia and japan. the philippines is the fourth leg of his six-nation trip that will also take him to saudi arabia and portugal. enditem

japanese food technology exposition opens in beijing
beijing july 18 (Xinhua) a japanese food technology exposition the largest of its kind ever held in new china opened at the beijing exhibition center here this morning.
a total of 49 japanese companies displayed over 500 kinds products and food processing technologies and equipment at the exhibition which covers a floor space of 11.000 square meters. the technologies cover food purchasing, storage, transport; processing, packaging and sales.
the exhibition has a special ball, showing 370 kinds of chinese food products processed by 14 chinese provinces and municipalities.
