china buys u.s. nuclear plant simulator

july 18 (Xinhua) --china has bought a simulator from the united states to train nuclear power plant operators according to the national nuclear safety administration of china. the administration's chief engineer lin chengge told xinhua today that the simulator for a 900,000 kilowatt nuclear plant has been shipped to beijing's ainghua university.

a simulator duplicates the control panels used by reactor operators which is tied into a computer that simulates the actions of a power plant.

qinghua university is now renovating a building to house the simulator. trial training of chinese nuclear plant operators is expected to start in the latter half of 1987, according to cher.

the chief engineer said the simulator allows reactor operators to practise running a nuclear plant under the normal or accidental conditions, and helps them do accurate operations and handle accidents of different kinds.

the national nuclear safety administration will, chen said. strictly train and examine operators in line with international standards and procedures. successful trainees will be given

licerces.
