You may wish to be aware that Mr Walker has now
responded to the Secretary of State's minute, and we understand that Mr Channon will reply soon. Meanwhile, are considering with Department of Energy how UK and Chinese nuclear safety experts can be brought together soon (under the auspices of our bilateral nuclear cooperation agreement) to discuss a range of issues including safety at Daya Bay; and will be consulting within the office on possible ways of fitting an early visit to Hong Kong into Mr Walker's visit programme for 1986, despite the cancellation of his proposed visit to China.
