He is already very well-known in the UK as an expert

on nuclear matters. He is certainly very knowledgeable in general

terms, and is the author of a best-selling Penguin book on

nuclear power. A frequent TV pundit, he now works as

independent consultant and is special adviser to the House of

Commons Select Committee on Radioactive Waste and Management.

He appeared for the Environmental Lobby at the Sizewell Enquiry.

He has taken an anti-nuclear stance since the mid-70s, when he

first worked with Friends of the Earth on PWRs, a type of reactor which he regards as inherently dangerous. Some of the

papers he has prepared have contained factual inaccuracies,

and this has brought him into further conflict with the British

nuclear establishment.

Should it be helpful, NED can attempt a rather fuller

(and less hasty) assessment of Mr Patterson. But I suspect that his pedigree and background will give him at least an

appearance of authority which may well impress, while the

balance

of his comment will generally be found to be unhelpful.
