Vienna, 5 June 1986.- Operational procedures for abnormal conditions in nuclear power plants will be reviewed and discussed during a
week-long seminar in Munich this month.
The seminar, at which there are expected to be about 150
participants, will be held at the Europäisches Patentamt, Munich.

The seminar will be opened on 23 June-by Prof. Leonard Konstantinov,
IAEA Deputy Director General in charge of the Department of Nuclear
Energy and Safety.
Prof. Konstantinov was one of the three senior IAEA officials who
visited Moscow and Chernobyl in early May. He will not, however,
discuss the accident in any detail: the Munich meeting was planned before the Chernobyl accident, whose implications and lessons to be learned from it will be reviewed at other IAEA expert meetings. timing, subjects and participants in these future meetings are still
being discussed.

3.The Munich seminar will review the scope of emergency operating
procedures and progress and development in their implementation;
accident management; operator aids; and related topics. A concluding
panel discussion on Friday, 27 June, will consider alternative
approaches to severe accident management.
