according to the tenders called by Hua-neng Company joint-venture of MOWREP and China Resources Company of Hong Kong), the prices quoted by GEC were extremely high;

high GEC prices could only be considered if they were supported by U.K. Government's attractive loan terms.

The Vice-Premier welcomed Mr. Stones' suggestion and he requested Mr. Stones to do some lobbying jobs when he returned to U.K. or contact other manufacturers, such as NEI. Li Peng stated that the price should be competitive for such a large scale project and big business volume. The Vice-Premier would accompany the Party General Secretary Mr. Hu Yao-bung to visit U.K. in June 1986 and he would contact Mr. Stones if time permitted.
