Meeting Note

On 10 June 1985 the following met to discuss

the paper "Patents in Hong Kong - The Present System and Its Future Development" :

Mr Noel Gleeson JP

Miss Anna Wu

Mr Anthony Rogers QC

Mr Tony Rackham

Mr Bertrand de Speville

It was agreed that :

(1)

Hong Kong should not establish a patent office granting original patents.

(2)

Hong Kong should continue to register patents granted elsewhere.

(3)

(4)

The registration of patents granted by the European Patent Office should be explored as an alternative to the present system of registering United Kingdom patents and European patents (UK).

The views of the commercial community in Hong Kong, both local and foreign, should be sought as to :

(a)

whether the existing system of registration should be widened to include European patents or be replaced by the registration of European patents only;
