Hungary is an active participant in a number of MTN Arrangements and Agreements, having joined the Meat and Dairy Arrangements in 1979 and the Standards, Antidumping, Customs Valuation and Import Licensing Codes in 1980. Hungary is also an observer in the Government Procurement and Subsidies Codes.

There are no restrictions on U.S.-Hungarian trade relations under the Codes, despite the U.S. invocation of Article XXXV in the GATT context.

The Bilateral Agreement on Trade Relations, which entered into force on July 7, 1978, is the key

U.S.-Hungarian trade agreement as through, this agreement the U.S. grants Hungary MFN treatment on a conditional basis.
