dear colleague
Thank you for your letter of 20 March about China's membership of the Asian Development Bank, and your representation
on its Board of Directors.
I am delighted that the long negotiations have now been successfully completed, and that China became a member of the
Bank last month. We shall look forward to working with you in the Bank, particularly through our respective Directors in
Manila.
I understand that the Bank is actively considering the arrangements for China's representation in the Board, including an interim arrangement until the next election of the Board of Directors in about a year's time. I very much hope that a satisfactory solution will soon be achieved. I assure you
that we are working to that end.
I avail myself of this opportunity to renew to you the
assurances of my highest consideration.
