additional funds. He emphasized that those funds were very difficult to find, because our aid programme was
very constrained.
There were many other competitors

the UN system, the World Bank, other regions pressing
for funds. The result reflected the fact that contributors
thought the Bank handled its resources well. We would
look to the development of the policy issues. Taxpayers money had to be used effectively, otherwise it would not
be available. Mr. Fujioka said he was very satisfied with the result, and that he had appreciated the co-operation of the UK delegation in achieving it. Mr. Ainscow emphasized that we would be looking to see that the new funds would be used effectively. The UK was critical of some multilateral
institutions, although not of the Bank. He hoped the Bank would press on with policy development.
