Employment in the manufacturing sector registered a decline during the twelve months ending March 1986 (paragraph 4.6). There are, however, indications. that manufacturing

employment increased during the second quarter as domestic

exports recovered. During the twelve months ending March 1986, the number of workers employed on building and construction sites also fell (paragraph 4.7). Employment in the services sectors, on the other hand, increased, reflecting the continued expansion of the external and distributive trade sectors as well as of the finance and other related services

sectors (paragraph 4.8).

4.3

During the twelve months ending March 1986, earnings

in the manufacturing sector and in the services sectors, in terms of payroll per person engaged, increased quite rapidly in money terms and in real terms (paragraphs 4.10 and 4.11).

Construction wage rates also showed some increase in real

terms (paragraph 4.13).
