carried by sea increased by 25% in terms of weight between the third quarter of 1985 and the third quarter of 1986, those carried by air increased by 50%. Inward cargo carried by sea and by air increased by

15% and 23% respectively.

5.21

The number of visitors coming to Hong Kong in the third quarter of 1986, at 977 585, was 14% higher than in the

same quarter last year. Visitors from South East Asia, Japan, the United States and the United Kingdom increased by

8%, 19%, 11% and 12% respectively. At the end of September

1986, there were 20 757 hotel rooms in Hong Kong, compared with 18 070 a year ago. The average hotel occupancy rate in the third quarter of this year was 84%, lower than the rate of 86% recorded in the same period last year.
