I spoke to your Private Office consequent upon our brief discussion in the Lobby prior to the Easter Recess.
Briefly, Mr Laurence Coppel, Managing Director is seeking a meeting with you to discuss and receive advice on their activities dealing with wealthy Hong Kong Chinese who will bring capital and management expertise to this country.
I enclose correspondence on this topic as it affected David Waddington and Ken Clarke and in setting up a meeting, it may be that representatives of those two Departments wish to be involved or at least consulted.
I understand that substantial investment in manufacturing could result if Singer and Friedlander in their capacity as Merchant Bankers negotiate and make arrangements in the full knowledge of the ground rules that would guarantee government support.
Mr Coppel is away on business between 7 and 21 May inclusive and would endeavour to meet your convenience outside those dates.
Your kind help in this matter would be much appreciated.
