Most addressees will be aware that the House of Commons Defence Committee have requested both written and oral briefing in prepara- tion for their forthcoming visits to Oman (Saif Sareea), Diego Garcia and Hong Kong. Work on the written briefs is in hand: they are to reach the Committee by 12 November (having been cleared by Minister (AF)). This minute sets out arrangements for the oral briefing.
2. The Committee have allocated two of their regular meetings to the oral briefings: Tuesday 18 November at 1630, and Wednesday 19 November at 1030. Both briefings will take place in Commons Committee Rooms. It would seem a reasonable division of the available time to cover Oman and Diego Garcia in the Tuesday session, and to devote the Wednesday morning to Hong Kong. Going by precedent, it would be appropriate for each briefing team to be led at two-star level; I understand that AUS (DS) will be available
