DEFENCE COMMITTEE
8 September 1986
I am writing to confirm our telephone conversation about the visit of the House of Commons Select Committee on Defence to Oman later this year.
As you know, the Committee will be viewing parts of Exercise SAIF SAREEA on 25 and 26 November. On the following two days they are very keen to have the opportunity of holding discussions with Ministers of the Government of Oman, of visiting the Naval Command, and of seeing the Straits of Hormuz.
You and I discussed a possible outline programme:
Thursday, 27th November
Morning
Afternoon
Meetings and discussions with Ministers and others [you suggested that it might be appropriate for the Committee to meet the Deputy Prime Minister for Defence and the Minister for Foreign Affairs).
Visit to the Naval Command, Muscat.
Friday, 28th November
A visit to the Straits of Hormuz, leaving Muscat at about 0800 and returning at about 1500. You kindly said that it might be possible for your Government to provide air transport to and from the Straits.
