Thank you for your letter of 11 February to Geoffrey Howe
about your recent visit to Peking and Hong Kong. Your
letter has been passed to me as the Far East falls within
my area of responsibility.
I am pleased that Sir Richard and both Hong Kong and
Far Eastern Departments were able to assist and I will
certainly pass on your kind words.
I am delighted that China's first International Conference
on Rehabilitation proved such a success and I am certain
that your own and Dr Fang's participation contributed to
that success.
You will know that links between the Sino-British Group☛
on Rehabilitation, of which Geoffrey Howe is a patron,
and The China Welfare Fund for the Handicapped are now
well established but I would be pleased to discuss with
you your views on wider cooperation in this area.
May I
suggest that you arrange an appointment for some mutually
convenient date through Mr Rouse (233 5539) in Far Eastern
Department.
