VISIT TO INDIAN SUB CONTINENT AND HONG KONG
CAVEAT....
1. In my letter to you of 22 July I said that we
were consulting Posts about Mr Waddington's proposed
visit and would write to you again when they had
responded. All Posts concerned have now replied to
the effect that they would welcome a visit from
Mr Waddington next month. I understand that there are
a few problems of which the Minister is aware such as
the timing of a religious holiday in the Sub Continent
and the possibility that the Indian Government may be
difficult over access to their Ministers and officials.
However, neither we nor the Posts concerned regard
these as overriding problems and I am happy to tell
you that the Foreign Secretary is content that Mr Waddington
should carry out the visit as proposed.

have been in touch with you concerning the Minister's
itinerary. We will shortly be putting this Buste
