It was suggested that a visit by Lady Young to Turkey should take place in the Autumn rather than earlier in the year, depending upon the Turkish Foreign Minister's inward visit. Visits to Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka could be combined into one journey, but might be better put back to early Autumn. Sri Lanka was accorded lowest priority of the three countries.
14.
It was agreed that Ministerial attendance at The South Pacific Conference was highly desirable, and it was recommended that Lady Young or Mr Eggar should attend. The Sub-Committee thought that Mr Eggar should attend the Miami Conference on The Caribbean in November · see para 26.

A list of proposals for visits by Mrs Chalker is at Annex E. The Sub-Committee noted that the visits to Nigeria, Benin and Ghana would take place from 5 to 12 January It was recommended that Mrs Chalker consider visiting Spain in late January and Greece during the first quarter of 1987. It was noted that Mrs Chalker hoped to undertake the visits to Cote d'Ivoire, Senegal and The Gambia which had been given high priority by the MVC, in the period 8-14 February, subject to the Secretary of State's approval.
16. The Sub-Committee agreed that visits to Ethiopia, Somalia and Djibouti should be accorded high priority, and could take place in April (16-27), and recommended that Mauritius should be included in the itinerary. It was also agreed that Mrs Chalker should attend the Koenigswinter Conference in March/April, rather than Lady Young.
17. The Sub-Committee strongly recommended that Mrs Chalker should visit Malawi, but in the second half of 1987 rather than in the Spring. It was also suggested that Mozambique and Angola would be desirable additions to Mrs Chalker's itinerary. It was recommended that Cameroon and Congo should be combined into one trip, preferably later in the year.
Mr Renton
18. Proposals for visits by Mr Renton are at Annex F. The Sub-Committee thought the proposed visit to the USSR should be regarded as "firm" rather than "probable". It was noted that the visits to YAR, Saudi Arabia and Oman had been postponed until mid-February. The Sub-Committee sugested that visits to Korea and Japan could take place in the Spring, but the latter would depend on the Secretary of State's own programme. The Secretary of State might well visit Japan in April.
