Narcotics
Annex D
Both sides reaffirmed the need for good liaison on narcotics trafficking. The Chinese side reported that the visit to Narcotics Bureau by a Narcotics Study Group from Beijing in June this year had been very useful. Mr. LIU Wen stated that, as in other countries represented in Interpol, China was conscious of the need to protect against narcotics trafficking and the abuse of drugs. Не stated that narcotics were posing a problem in China and that the authorities would have to "open their eyes widely" to curb the revival of drug abuse and trafficking. The need for prompt passage of intelligence and assistance between enforcement officers in Hong Kong and China was agreed.
2.
In discussions with Narcotics Bureau officers, during which cases of mutual interest were discussed, the Chinese side reported that the Golden Triangle was a source of supply for drugs entering China and that Vietnam was promoting this supply of drugs. The Chinese side showed particular interest in synthetic drugs and "soft drugs" and were supplied with identification charts and litera ture on this subject.
