Minister the day before I again expressed the hope that

she would be able to come to China at a time convenient

to her, because her previous visits to China were too

short and I welcome her to come to China to see more of

China and to personally experience the friendly

sentiments and goodwill the Chinese people cherish

towards the British people.

Cornelie McDougal, Financial Times.

Q. Mr Hu, you said that you plan to withdraw yourself

from active life from next year. Does that mean you will

retire at the Party Congress? And secondly; China's

control of the economy has caused stagnation this year.

Could you explain how the Chinese leadership will solve

this problem?

A.

It is true that the Chinese Communist Party of China

is going to hold its 13th National Congress next year and

in September this year we are going to hold the 6th

Preliminary Session of the Central Committee of the

Chinese Communist Party to discuss very specific matters

and the convening of the National Congress. Well I said

that starting from next year we are going to gradually to

do less and less of the work of the first front.
