It is my good pleasure to meet you, friends from the
press. You in the press carry a great responsibility in
the mass media. I wish to express my heart felt thanks
to you for your hard work in covering my current visit.
Though my visit to Britain is short it has left a very
deep impression on me. I have been accorded a
welcome and the gracious hospitality by
Prime Minister Thatcher and the government and people of
the various circles of Britain. I am keenly impressed
that like China the UK greatly treasures its ancient
history and the cultural heritage. The people of Britain
have, through efforts of generations made enormous
achievements in economic, scientific, technological and
the cultural fields. During the visit
Prime Minister Thatcher and I myself held very sincere
and friendly talks. Vice Premier Li Peng, Vice Chairman
Fei Xiaotong and I myself also entered into extensive
contacts with people of various circles in your country.
I am deeply aware that the present British government and
general public cherish the desire to further develop
friendly relations and co-operation with China. All this
has made me more confident about bright prospects of
