Notes on the completion of MARKET ASSESSMENTS

Section I

S

Brief description of the type of market.

a)

Political and economic factors.

The political background should be very brief, especially for developed countries, unless it has a significant bearing on trade prospects (eg protectionist sentiment in the US ·

Congress). The economic factors should include matters like any international debt problems, significant dependence on any particular commodity etc.

b)

ECGD assessment

This is best commissioned by Market Branches from the ECGD

country desks. It is important that they should not include

details of country limits as the assessment papers will

remain unclassified.

c) Prospects for the future

A brief assessment of likely developments (and trends) in the economic and political situation which could affect bilateral trade prospects.
