In the third quarter of 1985, 2.8 million trips were made by Hong Kong residents to China, representing an increase of 31% over the same period last year. addition to this, 157,000 trips were made by foreign visitors to China through Hong Kong. The number of trips made by Chinese residents to Hong Kong during this period rose by 4.2% to 28,410. Of these trips, 51% were in the form of group tours, paid for by the visitors' relatives in Hong Kong. The rest comprised two way permit holders coming to Hong Kong to visit relatives, do business or attend seminars.
