About 60% of the goods imported from China in the third quarter were subsequently re-exported elsewhere. Re-exports of China origin to the rest of the world accounted for 35% of Hong Kong's total re-exports.

Analysed by products, imports from China of live animals, textile fibres and their wastes, petroleum and related products, and textile yarn and fabrics, showed decreases in the third quarter of this year over the same period last year. On the other hand, imports of clothing
and miscellaneous manufactured articles recorded some
growth.

The slowing down in the growth rate of both Hong Kong's domestic exports and re-exports to China, coupled with a moderate recovery in imports from China, have resulted in a visible trade deficit of HK$547 million with
