office machines, telecommunications, sound recording and

reproducing apparatus, road vehicles and electrical machinery fell, by 75%, 55%, 51% and 9% in money terms

respectively. Re-exports of textile yarn, however, rose

by 25%.

Imports from China, however, increased

substantially in the fourth quarter of 1985. Compared with the same period in 1984, the value of imports from

China increased by 26% to HK$18,206 million.

For the year as a whole, the value of imports from China amounted to

HK$58,962 million, 5.8% higher than in 1984.

About 54% of the goods imported from China in the fourth quarter of 1985 were subsequently re-exported elsewhere. Re-exports of China origin to the rest of the world accounted for 37% of Hong Kong's total re-exports. The respective proportions for 1985 as a whole were 59%

and 33%.
