For example, the Branch Secretaries may seek the Council's

advice on new capital projects for example the Third

University or the Eastern Harbour Crossing on new policy

initiatives

such as the policies to be followed in the

light of the recent Broadcasting Review Board report on

the introduction of new Bills into the Legislative Council

(of which there will be about 80 in a typical year) or on

the making of subsidiary legislation. (see note)

Council.

The

Attorney-General's Chambers, for example, acting on the

advice of the Law Reform Commission, have put forward many

proposals to the Council for modernising Hong Kong's laws

to take account of changing social conditions and values.

The Building and Lands department is required by Ordinance

to seek the Council's advice on various lands matters, the

Water Supplies Department provides the Council with regular

reviews of the water supply situation; and the Highways

Department regularly seeks the Council's advice with regard

to objections made to proposals for road works.
