KMT Influence in Government Bodies
Thank you for your letter of 27th June.
Chinese worries that the KMT have taken advantage
of moves towards more representative government to get their people onto boards and councils are not entirely without foundation. For material on the KMT's performance in recent elections see:

The picture that emerges from these reports is not straightforward. Candidates supported by the KMT are not necessarily KMT members, or even pro-KMT. Some are chosen simply to deny election to a left wing candidate. Sometimes the KMT and the communists find themselves recommending the same person. Although quite a large number of candidates supported or recommended by the KMT were successful in the
